Panorama City, California is a neighborhood located within the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. It is bordered by Van Nuys to its east and North Hills to its west. It was developed as one of the first planned communities in the 1940s and remains an important part of the greater Los Angeles area today.
The area that is now Panorama City was once home to the Tongva Native Americans. After being visited by Spanish missionaries exploring out from Mexico, European settlers began arriving in 1845 when it was part of Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando. When Los Angeles officially became a city in 1850, this area became part of Los Angeles County until 1915 when it was annexed into the newly formed city of Los Angeles.
Despite its long history, much of Panorama City’s current look comes from 1940s development efforts by entrepreneur Henry E. Huntington who died not long after his plans were implemented. The much sought after housing developments drew many people throughout Greater LA including defense workers during WWII with canny marketers offering lots for sale for as little as $100 down and affordable monthly payments with no credit check required in some cases. In 1946 Hughes Aircraft Company also opened up their nearby plant which provided many more jobs to the area that continue to this day.
The layout for these developments included plenty of parks and recreation centers for residents to enjoy with lush landscaping and plenty of green space which is still apparent today particularly around Sepulveda Basin Park and Recreation Area at Lake Balboa Park which offers visitors biking and jogging trails, sports fields, golf courses and much more! The area has also seen increased investment over recent years with new shops opening up along Roscoe Boulevard while other luxury businesses are popping up along Woodman Avenue such as restaurants, spas and boutiques which are giving this district a unique flavor all its own.
Today Panorama City may be better known recently due to prominent television programs like ABC’s Modern Family or love it or hate it MTV program Jersey Shore due to its abundance of celebrities living there but it continues to provide good quality homes for families or single professionals wanting access to all that LA has to offer while looking forward towards continued positive growth in coming years.
