Canoga Park is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. The community was founded in 1912, and named after the city of Canoga Park, New York. The area now known as Canoga Park was originally part of the Rancho El Camino Real (The Royal Road) land grant. In 1908, the Saticoy Land & Water Company acquired 48,000 acres (190 km2) of the rancho, and set out to subdivide and sell the land for farming and farming-related purposes. The company hired George H. Peck to oversee construction of a water system for the new community, as well as roads and other infrastructure. A small general store was built on the property, and soon became known as Peck's Corner.
